U11-U13 Soccer
This stage of the BC Soccer Player Pathway continues with disciplined training and begins to develop players' understanding of principles of play alongside their skills practice. Repetitions are important to develop technical proficiency, but creating a fun and challenging environment is still paramount to stimulate learning and promote a love of the game.
Game formats range between 8v8 (U11 and U12) and 9v9 (U13) as players advance through this stage, and again a simple league schedule can be created, but no standings should be kept – the emphasis is still FUN.
Levels of Play
U11, U12 and U13 consists of both House (Div. 3) and Select teams (Div. 1 & Div. 2).
Players chosen for a Select Team, based on season-long team formation processes, will play at the Div. 1 and Div 2. levels and are part of the BC Coastal Soccer League (BCCSL). The BCCSL consists of teams from Alouette, Burnaby, Fraser Valley, North Shore, Richmond, South Fraser, Tri-Cities, and Vancouver Youth Soccer Districts.
Players not placed on a Select team or not wanting to play on a Select team will be assigned to a Div 3 (House) team. In U11 and U12 the House teams play as part of the North Shore Youth Soccer Association (NSYSA). In U13 House teams play as part of the BC Coastal Soccer League (BCCSL).
Building on the small-sided formats in the younger age groups, our U11-U12 program moves to 8-a-side (including a goalkeeper). From there, our U13 program moves to 9-a-side (including a goalkeeper), to support the transition into 11v11 play in U14. Game scores are reported for monitoring purposes only and will not be published.
