NHL Hockey Legend, Olympic medalist, and member of NVFC’s Board of Directors. This is Cammi Ferraro. ⠀

Born in Chicago and raised in Downers Grove, Cammi grew up with big dreams and extraordinary ambitions. Cammi went to school at Providence College in Rhode Island on a hockey scholarship, where she studied Social Science with a major in sociology. She then attended Concordia University, to obtain a degree in sports administration.⠀

Hockey was her passion. She started playing hockey at 5, playing on the boys’ team until 17 because there were no girls teams at the time. “My brothers inspired me to be the best I could be and they pushed me to be better all the time”, says Cammi. Her dream? To play in the NHL and the Olympics. ⠀

A Dream Come True

Her oldest brother played in the 1988 Olympics. This motivated her to work harder, and in 1998, her dream came true. Cammi won a gold medal in the 1998 Olympics and a silver medal in the 2002 Olympics representing the USA.

Cammi goes on to say, “My greatest sports moment was winning the Olympic gold medal in 1998… It was an incredible feeling”. In 205 career games for the national team, Cammi had 186 goals, 157 assists and 343 points. She is also the team’s all-time leading scorer. ⠀

Ferraro was inducted to the International Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008, the US Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010.  She currently works as a scout for the NHL Seattle organization, being the first female scout in the NHL. ⠀

Her role at NVFC

Her biggest passion at the Club is to “enhance the experience of the players and families in the club so they feel proud to be a part of it”. At every big event, Cammi will sure be there! “I’m most excited that I was able to implement the Opening Day Festival and also to enhance the end of the year Jamboree into a round-robin format.” Her impact on the Club is pure gold, just like her Olympic medal!⠀

Cammi’s billboard: “You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think” – Winnie the Pooh. ⠀

Certainly, Cammi Ferraro is brave, strong and smart. That’s why she is NVFC’s gold medal…
