In-Season Evaluations

Select Players

Both their head coach and Age Group Technical Coordinator will evaluate all players. All current Select players will be invited back to end of season evaluations. This does not guarantee placement back onto a Select team.  Players must attend end of season evaluations to be considered for a Select team. We will assume any players invited to end of season evaluations that do not attend and do not communicate with their Age Group Coordinator in advance are only interested in playing at the House level.

House Players

The Club's staff coaches will identify players with the potential to play Select at their House/Grassroots Development sessions. The appropriate Select Age Group Coordinator will be notified so that these players can be added to the pool of players available to be brought up on Intra-Club Permits. Identified players will be automatically invited to end of season evaluations. Also, at season's end, House coaches will be able to recommend players to attend End of Season Evaluations and they will be invited as well. GoalKeepers

Goalkeepers are invited to evaluations as per above.

Players new to the Club

Players should email the Age Group Coordinator of the age group they are currently playing in.  Players must provide the Technical Director with a player evaluation from their previous coach, The Technical Director or other Technical Instructor/Coach. Players must then register for next season prior to the select team formation.  From there we will arrange for players who are new to the Club to be included in the evaluation process.

Players new to the Club who register after the select team formation will be placed on House teams. After the select teams have been formed they may be evaluated and, if they have the potential to play select, will be added into the appropriate select pool. If any select spots become available, select coaches will be expected to scout players from their particular pool to find a replacement.

If you wish to play House level soccer next season, players should decline the invitation and do not need to attend evaluations.

For the Metro level, end of season evaluations will occur prior to Phase B Gold evaluations. The registration process for these evaluations is detailed in the Metro Evaluations section below.

Evaluations for the U11 to U14 age groups will all use some paid evaluators who are independent in that they are not coaches or parents in this age group at the club. To recoup costs the Club charges a select team fee at the point of registration for your team for next season. This fee ensures our ability to implement evaluations that are objective, consistent and informed. It also partially covers artificial turf field costs that some evaluations are run on.

Players trying out for Metro or Select will be required to adhere to the Metro/Select Player Commitment letter that must be submitted to your team officials (coach/manager). It is important that players realize that this is a serious commitment—coaches will expect players to be motivated to develop and attendance at games and training will be considered a given and may be monitored. Failure to adhere to the Metro/Select Player Commitment could result in reduced playing time and will jeopardize continued play at the Metro/Select level the following season. Players choosing to accept a spot on a Metro/Select team should fully recognize the responsibilities attached to the decision as a lack of commitment by an individual may impact the viability of the team.

Players who specify they want to be evaluated as a goalkeeper must similarly agree that, if selected, they agree to play at least half of each game in goal. Goalies, at U12 and under, must also be able to demonstrate some ability to play out of goal at the level they are trying out for or close to it. This will be taken into consideration but will not necessarily be the deciding factor when teams are formed.

These procedures have been designed and refined over several years in response to membership requests for more transparent evaluations run by neutral, experienced soccer personnel.
